About Dallenbach Ranch on the Frying Pan River
The Dallenbach Ranch is a "Landmark Property" in the Frying Pan River Valley. It was originally homesteaded in 1896 by Dan German who was the first Black Smith in town. Today it is one of the largest holdings in the valley and has several cabins of varying size and age that are currently rented to local area residents. Its modern era dates to 1973 when racing legend Wally Dallenbach won the California 500 Indy Car Race and bought the ranch with the prize money. For the last 36 years the Dallenbach family has been on the ranch building cabins, ponds, clearing and irrigating fields, and making the ranch one of the most beautiful in the area. The ranch has senior water rights and over a half mile of the Frying Pan River running through the southern portion of the ranch. From racing legends to royalty (Princes Harry and William spent about four days on the ranch at the high meadows cabin); The Dallenbach Ranch has had a long list of distinguished guests over the years. Its location in the center of the Roaring Fork/Frying Pan Valleys puts it within a 40 minute drive of Aspen, Glenwood Springs (largest hot springs in Colorado), four major ski areas, Reudi Reservoir, and the Aspen Airport.
The charming town of Basalt (pop. 3,200), originally called Aspen Junction, is just 1.5 miles from the ranch and has several fine restaurants, all manner of stylish boutique shops, lodges and motels, all services, and 2 fly shops. With an elevation of 6,500 ft., it has shorter and milder winters than its famous cousin, Aspen, which has an elevation of 8,100 ft. It is in the center of the Roaring Fork River Valley, with Aspen just 18 miles to the east and Glenwood Springs about 25 miles to the west. Snowmass Ski Area is just 15 miles from the ranch, and Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and Ajax Mtn. ski areas are only a few miles further east. Aspen Airport has daily jet service to Denver with an FBO including all catering and fuel services for private aircraft. The Eagle/Vail Regional Airport is just 50 miles east of Basalt, and Denver is about a four hour drive.
