About Hay Creek Ranch in Colorado

Hay Creek is located in Park County, west of the Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs area in a peaceful private valley that is surrounded by wilderness areas. It is located just off a paved and maintained county road with year-round access. Being situated in the center of Colorado, it is a short drive to skiing, fishing, hunting, camping, resorts, restaurants, shopping, airports and other popular attractions.

Hay Creek Ranch is comprised of 167 acres with 127 deeded and another 40 acres of wilderness area that is fenced within the property boundary. Lying within its own tranquil valley surround by dramatic rock outcroppings, the acreage includes beautiful woodland areas of pine and aspen, a wild strawberry patch back in the east valley and three forks of Hay Creek which flow year-round into Tarryall Creek. The hay meadow is sub-irrigated and consists of 85% native brome, 10% timothy and 5% red clover. Depending on precipitation, the hay production levels are between 1,200 and up to 1,500 seventy-pound bales. The property has several springs along with two ponds, of which one is stocked with trout.

Wildlife is abundant on the property. Elk are on the ranch from fall through the spring calving season. The ranch is also the breeding ground for the Colorado’s Designated State herd of Bighorn Sheep. The pristine ranch is also visited by moose, waterfowl and other species that visit the property from the surrounding habitats. Fishing in the area is premier for trout, some being designated as Gold Medal fisheries in the nearby streams along with the numerous reservoirs.

Hunting amenities on this secluded property are tremendous. With the sub-irrigated meadows and water sources it is a big draw for trophy elk, sheep and the many deer that inhabit the ranch. The ranch and surrounding forest is located within Colorado Game Management Unit 501. The owner has been offered elk depredation tags because of the large elk population in the area. The new owners can take advantage of miles of back country tails in the wilderness, with access to the Lost Creek Wilderness and Pikes Peak National Forest.

All mineral rights to the property do convey to the new owner. A very productive well on the property services all structures. There are also several springs Hay Creek that sub-irrigates the hay and pasture ground. There are two ponds on the property, one is stocked with trout and over 18’ deep.

Main Home:
The main home is a 1,500 square foot ranch home. It was custom built in 2000 with three bedrooms and 1 ¾ baths. The entire house features pine timbered beams and perfect native structural posts on the exterior, tongue and groove aspen paneling, all harvested, milled and installed by the owner who is a true craftsman. There is a large country kitchen with an eating area, very large utility room/mud room and two storage pantries. The master has 1 ¾ bath with a Jacuzzi tub. The attached shop and garage area of 3,500 square feet is fully insulated and heated. It has full wall of wall shelving and a cozy wood stove for heating. It is connected to the living space and has three overhead doors, with one being the proper width and height to accommodate an RV. To round out the peaceful home, there is a wrap-around covered redwood deck with established gardens and overlooks the pasture, rock outcroppings and the beautiful features of the private valley and property. From an engineering stand point the 100 year trusses are engineered for supporting 105 pounds of ice or snow. The entire house was designed to allow for easy expansion for more square footage.

Second Residence:
The second residence on the ranch is a cozy 1,400 square foot home. The current owners used this while they were building the main home, but it is now used as a caretaker/tenant home, and sits away from the main homestead. It has twp bedrooms, den and mudroom and is appointed with cedar siding, aspen and pine. Off of this residence is a 16 x 36 partially enclosed three-stall barn that is currently used as the owners wood working shop where he currently restores old carriages, chuck wagons and more.

It includes eight stalls with runs, auto waterers, heated wash bay, tack room, grain room and tack and storage rooms along with a meeting area.
